Furniture Emergencies can Happen in a Flash

Have you ever had a catastrophic accident that involved the decimation of an item of furniture in your home? I have actually had two occasions that ended with the premature need to buy some new furniture. One of the incidents is kind of embarrassing and the other one isn't so spectacular.

The mundane story is one that many people have probably experienced. My older sister had asked me to babysit a dog for her while she and her new went on honeymoon. I had told her that it probably wasn't a good idea because I did a lot of traveling for my job at the time and I could have to leave at a moment's notice. This statement may ruffle some feathers, but I have always been more of a cat person. However, I agreed because she claimed no one else could watch her dog. I'm not sure what kind it was but I couldn't believe that small of a dog could produce such a mess. As predicted, I had to travel for work, but I was able to pay someone who would come over and tend to the pooch while I was gone.

The Dog and the Aftermath

So, I left the dog in the hands of the third-string dog tender. When I returned home, both my sofa and loveseat had been torn to shreds. The trash can had been dumped and it's contents had been scattered. Also, the dog left piles of poop all over the place and tore up almost every one of the blinds covering my living room windows. At first glance, I was furious because I assumed the girl I had asked to tend the dog never came over. I had only been gone for three days and I couldn't believe the wreckage. After talking to the girl's mother, I found out that the girl (who was only 12 or 13 and her mother was driving her over to my place) had found the place in a state of chaos on the first day. Both of them cleaned it up some of the mess and the second day it was even worse. Her mother told me that they would both help me but she saw no point in trying to clean up the mess if it would just be made all over again. They told me they would help and I declined because it was absolutely not her fault. Anyway, needless to say, I was searching for a furniture store near me on the internet pretty quickly.

The Recliner Jump

The second story isn't so bad but it's embarrassing.  I had some friends over when I was younger and we were all in my room on my bed watching TV. I decided that I was going to jump onto the bed and jostle my friends. I ended up breaking the wooden bed frame so bad it was irreversibly ruined. There really isn't much else to the story except for my friends making jokes about it and I realized a grown-up should never jump onto a bed.

Summer May be Winding Down

Patio Furniture - It's getting Milder Outdoors

Anyone who has lived in Texas for a few years knows that there is always a chance that summer temperatures can extend well into the fall season. While for people like me who are hot-natured, that may sound like extended misery. For people that it doesn't bother, it means that your summers are that much longer. I will admit that while the temperatures do stay hotter for longer than I like, they do get milder and milder. That means that my patio furniture stays usable and relevant for much longer. As they say, God bless Texas!

Caring for Patio Furniture

For the most part, patio and outdoor chairs and tables are made from materials that are much more resistant to the elements like wind, sun, heat, and rain. Just because they can stand up to all that stuff doesn't mean they can stand up to ice and snow. For that reason, you may want to think about storing your patio furniture away for the winter. Depending on your situation, that may just mean putting them under the porch and off the yard or putting them into a storage facility.

Outdoor Furniture has it rough and so if you do take the time and effort to move it before winter hits, that makes a great time to look your items over and see if anything maintenance is needed. If you have metal furniture, you may want to make sure everything is fastened. No matter what type you have, if you are moving it indoors, make sure you check them thoroughly for critters. Nothing like accidentally inviting some unwanted bugs into your home.

Ranges For Sale in Lubbock, TX

Ranges For Sale in Lubbock, TX

When your range isn't working right, it puts quite a kink in trying to feed my family. The only appliance I can think to be without is a refrigerator. While having a broken fridge is the worst, an out of order range is definitely second place. While you can eat out or microwave some things and have sandwiches or cold cereal, for myself and my kids, I prefer to have hot home-cooked meals. Without a working range, that's not an option.

What is a Range?

For some people, the term range is unfamiliar. A range is an oven and stove all in one. Some people have a stove that is set into the countertop space in their kitchen and have an oven in a different part. When it comes to ranges, the stove is the top part where you can boil water or heat up oil and fry foods. The oven is the part of the range where you open the door and bake or broil some goodies. I know some people may laugh at me, but I called my range an oven for a long time until I looked up oven online to purchase a new one. I learned real quick that my kitchen was not set up for an oven and separate stove.

Electric Ranges

I will admit that I like electric ranges more than I like gas ones simply because I know I don't have to worry about gas leaks with them. Nothing will make you more fearful than coming home from a long day of work only to smell natural gas. I honestly haven't lived in a house that wasn't all-electric for years and I am quite used to living that way.

There are benefits and drawbacks to both types but in today's world electronics are getting more in-depth. It is amazing to see how far along ranges have come in their development just in the past 20 years. I just discovered that my range has a feature where it uses a smaller fifth heating element to keep food warm. As my dad always used to tell me, "When all else fails, read the instructions...".
I know he was being pretty facetious, but it is true, I was always in such a hurry to build or install something new to the point that I would overlook some feature and be totally ignorant of it.

What isn't ignorant is finding the best deal in town when it comes to big purchases like furniture items or appliances. The House of Furniture in Lubbock has a vast selection of electric ranges. From conventional to glass-tops, they are sure to have something to fit your home and budget. Click here to view their selection from the comfort of your own home.
