Washing Machines and the Eternal Struggle of Laundry

Anyone who has kids probably knows what it feels like to keep the laundry room clear. Just when you think you have it done and there are no more clothes to wash, you blink and more appear. I know I may sound like a crybaby and I understand that with only two daughters, there are others out there with many more children and lots more laundry than me. However, it doesn't change the fact that I feel like I spend way more time around the washing machine than I should. Honestly, the washing and drying don't get to me like folding the clothes does. I guess it just feels so time-consuming.

My oldest will do her own laundry but that means she has one outfit she wants to wear and so that's the only thing that gets put in the washer. We've gone back and forth a few times because I feel that's a waste of water and electricity. Not only do I think it was a waste, but she would leave anything she found in the washer and dryer in a pile on the laundry room floor. Needless to say, this doesn't help with the struggle.

Tackling the Endless Tide (see what I did there?)

All puns aside, I do have an idea of how I might get a better handle on the washing machine situation in my house. This year, I am thinking of making a rule that for every new back to school outfit they get, they will donate three old outfits to charity. I suspect that this middle ground will be accepted by both my younger and older daughter, but I could meet some resistance. I am braced to stand firm in my ultimatum and at worst, I will have two unhappy campers on my hand, but I'll save money on back to school shopping.

Lubbock Furniture Store - Back to School

Lubbock Furniture Store - Back to School

I know that it is only the beginning of August, but I can't help to feel excited about the fact that the new school year is closing in. What this time means for me is that I will not have to spend all day practically begging in some futile attempt to get my kids to pick up their toys or other junk. While I am grateful to have the ability to care for my kids and work at home, it is still nice to be able to focus on one thing at a time. I know that eventually, they are going to grow up and they probably won't care about arts and crafts time, however, I bet they will not stop leaving their clothes lying around.

When I think about them going to back to school I have started preparing myself for what lies down the road when both my girls will be on their own. We moved into a house that has a room for each of us plus one extra and I've often wondered what I would do with the rooms when they do fly the coop. I am sure I won't do anything too quickly. There won't be any moves made during their freshman years of college. However, I have given it some thought even though I'm not looking forward to the change.

Furnishing New Rooms

My most prominent idea is that I would love to turn one of the rooms into an aquatic room. What I mean by that is that I would love to invest the time and money into turning a spare room into a small aquarium full of fish tanks. Between saltwater and freshwater tanks, there are a lot of possibilities when it comes to all the different fish I could try to keep. All in all, if that is the wildest idea I have, I guess I am pretty tame.

For some people, the spare room may be turned into a den or study. Maybe the room might become a man cave. No matter what you do to your room, you will need furniture to make it comfortable.
